About Chemical Peels@headingTag>
At Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania in Camp Hill, PA, board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Theodore T. Foley offers chemical peel treatments to men and women who wish to rejuvenate their skin. This treatment is commonly used on the face but is often applied to the hands, chest, and neck as well. The results reduce pigment discoloration, smoothes wrinkles, improves acne, and eliminates rough skin texture. Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery of Central Pennsylvania also offers several options to suit your aesthetic goals. Our aesthetician will determine which peel is appropriate for you during your complimentary consultation.
"Best plastic surgeon in the area! After exploring several options, I chose Dr. Foley because he was very qualified and knowledgeable. He was caring, professional and did a great job. He talked me through the procedure step by step. His staff was amazing and caring as well. He made sure I was pain free the entire time and put me at ease. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking plastic surgery."- Anonymous / Office Visit / Jun 28, 2017
"I recently had reconstructive surgery (for the 2nd time) following treatment for breast cancer. Dr. Foley did an absolutely amazing job! I am beyond thrilled with the outcome, he did exactly everything he said he was going to do. My 1st surgery (performed by another doctor) resulted in deformities, constant discomfort and I was very unhappy. I would definitely refer Dr. Foley for any type of breast surgery (I had an implant and a breast reduction) I'm really impressed, he did an excellent job!"- H. / Healthgrades / Mar 11, 2017
"Dr. Foley and his crew are the best. They all genuinely care and want the best for each of their patients. Any breast cancer reconstruction patient will tell you that it's a long road back to feeling good in your own skin again. However, it IS possible, and Dr. Foley, with his gentle and kind nature, will be with you every step of the way. Thank you.....for everything!"- A.B. / Facebook / Mar 03, 2017

Types of Chemical Peels@headingTag>
There are several types of chemical peels offered by our office. The strength used will be determined based on the skin condition of the patient, as well as the aesthetic goals and desired downtime. Our office offers the following peels:
- Superficial/Light Peel (SkinCeuticals Micropeel Plus Sensitive Skin Solution or PCA Sensi Peel): Our mildest peel is great for sensitive skin or first time peel patients who want to exfoliate dead skin, unclog pores, hydrate and improve skin tone and texture. There is usually no “downtime” or flaking with this peel. This peel can also be combined with dermaplaning. Usually, multiple treatments are recommended to get the best possible results.
- Personalized Superficial Chemical Peel (Ultra Peel I, Ultra Peel Forte, PCA with Hydroquinone & Resorcinol):
These peels provide a more customizable approach to treating your skin. It provides a combination of acids used for patients experiencing mild skin imperfections resulting from acne, skin aging and sun exposure. It also targets fine lines, uneven tone and texture. Peeling typically starts 2-3 days after procedure and can last 2-5 days. For optimal results a series of peels are recommended to notice most improvement. Please consult with our Aesthetician to determine if this peel is right for you.
- Advanced Chemical Peel (PCA 6% Retinol Peel): This retinol peel provides dramatic and rapid rejuvenation of the skin. Skin is visibly smoother, brighter and more even toned. This peel does have some downtime. Peeling typically starts 2-3 days after procedure and can last up to 7 days. For optimal results, a series of peels are recommended to notice most improvement. Please consult with our Aesthetician to determine if this peel is right for you.
- Deep Physician Peel (TCA Peel): This is the strongest chemical peel is the deep peel and is used for deep scarring, excessive wrinkles, and more serious skin irregularities. While these peels promise the most dramatic results, a patient can be quite shocked by his or her appearance immediately following the procedure. High-strength TCA is used to penetrate the deeper layers of skin. Since this peel is more invasive, some form of anesthesia may be used. Following the peel, the skin will be intensely red comparable to a severe sunburn. The entire face will be swollen and then scab. Intense peeling will occur and the downtime could last 3 – 4 weeks, or longer.
What to Expect@headingTag>
Patients should arrive to appointment wearing no makeup. Skin will be prepped prior to chemical peel treatment and applied to area(s) of concern. The entire process can take up to one hour, which includes photos, reviewing pre/post instructions and administering treatment. Patient compliance is expected in order to achieve best results.
Regardless of the peel used, the overall procedure is similar. The skin will be cleansed thoroughly and the chemical solution will be applied to the face. This process takes just a few minutes and a handheld fan is used to help decrease discomfort. During a light peel, the skin will tingle during treatment. A medium peel will produce a bit more discomfort, and a deep peel will require a numbing agent or anesthesia. The differences between the peels are the type of solution used, the number of steps taken during the actual procedure, as well as the amount of solution that is applied. A soothing ointment will be applied to the skin after the treatment. In the days that follow, the skin will begin to naturally flake and peel away. Patients should avoid picking at the skin or trying to speed up the peeling process in any way because this can result in scarring. Patients should avoid sun exposure and keep their skin protected at all times.
